Disabled Parking Legislation Introduced
April 8th, 2011
The disability community has been working on disabled parking legislation for three years. On April 7, 2011, the bill (AB81) was finally introduced by Rep. Krusick. It has bi-partisan support in both the Assembly and the Senate. The bill seeks to increase the fines for parking in a disabled spot without the appropriate card or plate, and for the misuse of, or sale of, the parking placard. If the bill passes the fines will now range from $200 to $500.
The next step for the bill is to pass through the Assembly Transportation Committee. The names of the Committee are listed below. If you support this piece of legislation, please contact the Representatives from the Committee and let them know you support AB81. Also, if you do contact the committee, Options is asking you to please report your activities and responses to Sandy Popp at Options for Independent Living, toll-free – 888-465-1515, ext. 179.
